Hello there 🙂
The date I circled on my calendar is finally here: it is the inauguration day for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. As you already know, the latter will officially be the first female Vice President in United States history and cement it as the occasion for the books today.
Nothing is as important as the government's handling of America's numerous crises, but we at Who What Wear have always sought to promote both style and substance. To this end, I'm delighted to announce what our new Vice President has chosen for such an important day: a bold purple outfit with pieces by Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson, two young black designers from Louisiana and South Carolina respectively. The vice president's commitment to the next generation of black talent is clear when she wore Pyer Moss last night.
"Just when you thought she was going to put on a protective suit, Vice President Kamala Harris kicks off in a tailcoat, A-line dress and her signature in pearls, which gives us style and substance!" Mikki Taylor, author, speaker and editor of Essencesaid Who What Wear. "There is no small gesture for her; it is refreshing to see what true power looks like at every turn. She is what we have been waiting for – determined, empowered, ready to lead, serve and do the critical work of healing Our nation. As black women, we were taught by our elders to be ready. Vice President Harris does just that. "
"When we grew up as women of color in America, we never dreamed of seeing a Kamala Harris, but here it is!" continued Taylor, who wrote a book on First Lady style during the Obama administration. “When we clap and put down roots for them, our joy increases as we walk in the dreams of ancestors who believed that day was coming. Thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris, millions of girls can dream bigger today than they were in the capital of the nation stands, it stands on the shoulders of giants and we stand proudly with it at the beginning of a new era in the world!
