Wash sneakers in the washing machine
Slight signs of use from daily wear to heavy soiling from the last walk in the forest in rainy weather, over time your sneakers will get dirty. But is it so easy to wash? The answer is very clear: yes! Even if you are skeptical: Sneakers are wonderfully suitable for the laundry drum. You can actually wash many sneakers in the washing machine without complications. Before you immediately want to throw your shoes in the machine, you should check whether your sneakers can really be washed in the washing machine without being damaged. Warning: not every shoe likes the spin cycle
Synthetic and cotton sneakers can usually be washed at 30 degrees without any problems. Cotton trainers can feel a little tighter after washing. The whole thing looks a little different with leather sneakers: machine washing can make them porous. You should therefore weigh up: Is the laundry a last resort attempt for the shoe? Then you can take the risk of machine washing. Are they just a little dirty and otherwise in good shape? Then it's better to hand wash them. Even sneakers with buckles, rivets or rhinestones have no place in the machine wash.
In addition to sneakers, other cloth shoes, ballerinas and your slippers are also suitable for cleaning in the washing machine. However, there are exceptions that do not like the cold water at all. Washing sneakers – it's that easy!
Step 1: Before you go into the washing drum for your shoes, you should remove coarse dirt with a brush or a damp cloth. In addition, loose parts must be removed from the shoes. These include insoles and shoelaces.
Step 2: In addition to normal mild detergents from the drugstore or homemade liquid detergents, there are now also sneaker detergents that clean your sneakers in a particularly caring and gentle manner. However, you should definitely avoid using fabric softener.
Step 3: Some machines now have their own Wash cycle for sneakers. Otherwise, it's best to choose the option Delicates. With 30 degrees you are on the safe side that your shoes are not washed out or faded, and you also save valuable energy. If it can be avoided, you should get one Program without spinning because it can happen with some sneakers that the strong revolutions damage them when spinning.
Danger: Never wash your sneakers in the washing machine by yourself, as this can damage the washing drum. It's best to wash them with towels or sheets and put them in an old pillowcase or pillow Laundry bag for sneakers. You can also put the insoles and laces in here.
