What have you tried?
Use an LED face mask (on the blue light setting) for three minutes every night for a week.
Why did you try
I've dealt with persistent acne, inflammation, and lingering scars for a few years, and prior to the COVID, every facial doctor I saw recommended light therapy to clear current outbreaks and prevent future ones. I usually got light therapy when I did my facials, but I haven't been able to do so for about a year because of quarantine. I felt like a home face mask was the next best thing, so I wanted to test how effective the home versions would be. I've experienced more bumps and redness than usual so I thought it would be a good time to try it out.
How did you prepare
I had really great things about the Dr. Dennis Gross owned DRx SpectraLite FaceWar Pro, so I reached out to the brand's team and they were kind enough to send me one to try a review. It's an incredibly simple product and treatment to fit into your routine, and I wore it (it's self-paced!) For three minutes each night after cleaning my face and applying my other facial products. The mask actually has three different settings: red LED that stimulates collagen production to minimize signs of premature aging such as fine lines, loss of elasticity and wrinkles; blue LED (which I used) to banish acne-causing bacteria on the face; and a combination of red and blue LEDs to bring you the best of all worlds.
What happened during the whole process?
Whenever I try something new, I always try to keep the rest of my routine pretty much the same. When I start changing too many things at once, it's hard to see what works and what doesn't. To keep things as controlled as possible, I stuck to my normal evening skin regimen, but added the LED mask right after the cleanse and just before my serum and evening moisturizer. In all honesty, after just one wear, I noticed a difference in tone and in the evenness of my complexion! After using the mask every night, my skin felt calmer and there was no redness in sight. After a full week of treatments, I had no new breakouts and the bumps that initially remained on my face were almost gone and significantly less angry and sore. The brand says you will see acne reduction in just a few days, but I definitely didn't believe it until I actually experienced the magic for myself!
Not really! As I said, each treatment only takes three minutes, so it really takes so little time. I never like adding extra time-consuming steps to my routine, so I was amazed at how straightforward the process is.
How quickly it worked on my acne and redness (especially around my chin and mouth) and how easy and seamless it was to incorporate it into my nightly routine! I also found it strangely relaxing and lay down during my treatment – almost like a little meditation!
How did you feel afterwards? What kind of changes did you notice?
Relaxed and happy! The mask itself is a really big investment so it's amazing that you will definitely get almost instant satisfaction from using it. I've only been using it for about a week, but within a few days I noticed its calming and rejuvenating effects on my skin. According to the brand, if used daily for the required three minutes, users will notice an elimination of mild to moderate acne in addition to fading lines. Of course, the longer you wear it, the better the benefits and it is said that the best results will be obtained after using the mask for 10 weeks. I look forward to continuing to use it!
What do you like about it?
I liked how convenient and easy it was to use, and how quickly I noticed results.
What did you hate
Nothing. I'm really excited to continue with the workout and I will probably start trying out the red and red / blue settings as the blue on its own has already been very beneficial for my complexion. Dr. Dennis Gross also makes a version exclusively for the eye area (to fight lines and wrinkles). Now I'm excited to see how much I love the full face model.
Would you try again
Certainly. I continue the practice and recommend it to practically everyone! It's not just for people with outbreaks. There are so many benefits (all of which you can read about on the brand's website). Nevertheless, I think that since then I will switch my daily treatment to morning and night is pretty bright. I try to take care of my blue light exposure and sleep hygiene when the evening comes, so I think actually using it in the morning might be less stimulating and relaxing.
Any advice for anyone considering giving it a try?
I know this is an extremely expensive product, but if you have the bandwidth in your budget, I think it's an extremely smart investment. Consistency is key, so it is important that you know that you will need to use the device regularly in order to get any glowing results. However, it's not a hassle to use and it's really streamlined. If you use it in the morning, just make sure you put on sunscreen immediately afterwards. If you use it at night, apply an exfoliant (if used) in addition to moisturizing products (like serums and moisturizers). later. Also, there are many light therapy devices on the market right now, and some are much more effective than others. I can personally vote for Dr. Dennis Gross vouch for it, but I doubt any equipment will be of any benefit this quickly or immediately. I definitely think this is an example of a product that is worth spending a little extra money on to really get the best benefits.
