Leave it to the fashion audience to do a huge amount of pushing for a new home trend. It seems like everyone on the internet is drawn to one particular topic right now: cottagecore. The style is a mix of an airy California beach house, a modern farmhouse in the country and a cozy east coast cottage with lots of neutral colors and natural materials.
Do you need a visual reference? Decor enthusiast Julia Havens expertly decorated her Nashville home with this aesthetic and shares all of her insights with us. "I'm the crazy woman who literally keeps redesigning bookshelves and coffee table decorations," she says of her talent for reinventing her space over and over again. See how she effortlessly hit the cottage core trend and purchase her affordable picks at Walmart to upgrade your own space.
Havens immediately got into the cottage core aesthetic. "This trend goes so well with my interior design style," she says. "I grew up in California, so I think the foundation of my decor will always be on the laid-back California vibe. Additionally, it's a mix of a European farmhouse and beach house; a modern take on traditional style and very neutral. You never will catch a bright color in my house! "
How do you actually achieve a cottage core look in your home? According to Havens, "the style contains so many earthy elements from the outdoors. Just pick a few different textures to combine in a room and you can easily get the mood: rattan, wood, stone. Then add some cozy pillows and you're there. " Here it contained textured vases, a woven tray for her wooden coffee table, and a cozy throw pillow. Another amazing tip she has is incorporating greenery. "I'm going to cut branches from the tree in my front yard and toss them in a vase and it instantly elevates an area," she says.
While Havens has a lot of affordable pieces in their home, that doesn't mean something looks cheap. βStick to a neutral color palette and make sure the elements fit the size of the room and everything looks really well done and expensive,β she says. This rattan rug and framed artwork from Walmart look really chic along with other vintage items in Haven's home.
Havens moves into the bedroom and uses similar natural textures and colors. "This is our master bedroom so I love to go the extra mile to choose pieces that are super relaxing to the touch. These Walmart side tables have added perfect warmth and a natural element to a room that was predominantly white, with built-in charging stations to which guests can easily connect their phones. "
