Hello there 🙂
If you spend a few minutes scrolling on TikTok, you might find yourself on the app's fashion page – once you get there, you will knows. At Fashion TikTok everyone dresses like the coolest person in your circle. The types of girls I talk about are the ones who embrace trends, are not afraid of colors and crazy prints, and dress with the energy of the main character every day. They love attracting It brands like House of Sunny and will be the first to tell you about the latest drops on Lisa Says Gah. You might even buy a chess board or some plastic rings after watching a few videos.
Lately I've noticed a new trend where people are pulling out all of the key elements of TikTok's NYC fashion girl aesthetic. Although these videos, like the one linked below, are often supposed to cast shadows on how ubiquitous these influencer types are, I think the whole look felt very timely, and I just had to feature one about the brands, trends, items, and people that define the style movement.
Okay, not that aesthetic just does exist in NYC, but I'd argue that this crew of fashion people made this fun-loving, maximalist vibe so popular in the app (and beyond). To explain exactly what I'm talking about, I'm breaking down the seven elements that currently define NYC TikTok fashion, from the color trend they all wear to the It brands you can find in each of their closets.
Right now there are a handful of It brands serving everyone's favorite trends. There are three names in particular that the TikTok fashion crew is obsessed with: House of Sunny, specifically the fur-trimmed cardigan and the green pieces; Paloma Wool for its graphic prints; and Lisa Says Gah, everyone's point of contact for everything that is bright, colorful and trendy.
We just noticed a surge in maximalist aesthetics and a general nod to the 60s in terms of fashion and home decor. Fashion girls especially love to play around with bright colors and loud prints, but instead of sticking to a pop of color in outfits, it is becoming increasingly popular to combine shades and prints.
Lexxola's colored lens sunglasses are one of those things that TikTok's fashion page just can't be scrolled through without seeing – that is, they're everywhere.
This may not be specific to the NYC scene as Y2K fashion is currently experiencing a massive revival in general, but as a New Yorker, I can attest that if you stroll through SoHo or the East Village you will see plenty of baguette bags and School bags from yesteryear, especially vintage Coach and Louis Vuitton logo bags.
Did you notice those fun oversized plastic rings that celebs and influencers have worn with their super long nails? They're La Manso rings, and they're the latest celebrity-approved (e.g. Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa, to name a few) it accessories. They are hard to miss and hard to get your hands on as they have definitely caught on with fashion girls around the world.
Green is another topic that is just everywhere. TikTokern is all about wearing the light shade – bonus points when it shows up from head to toe in your look – from grassy hues to pale mint.
If there is one item that defines this aesthetic more than anything, it has to be the leather blazer.
