I recently came to the Big Apple for NYFW. As a fashion editor, I used this time to find out what's next in fashion in terms of collections and street style. Regarding the latter, many of my favorite looks shared a thread – each contained fresh denim cuts.
Honestly, this is not such a big shock as a flawless pair of jeans can instantly create the forward-looking but reduced atmosphere, which is often very desirable. It is interesting, however, that classic skinny jeans (one of my favorite styles) did not appear in the outfits I was drawn to. It seems that many in NYC (you know, these cool women who set the trends) are only concerned with a few specific non-skinnies at the moment. Curious about the silhouettes in New York? Of course, New Yorkers welcome one of spring's remarkable denim trends, flares. This ideal pair – similar to this whisker style here – gives this retro quality a modern touch.
This denim cut is a cousin of wide-leg jeans and has an exaggerated silhouette in the top of the jeans, while tapering slightly down the ankle. Given its forward sensitivity, it's no wonder the cool women who run through New York City are in love with them.
Straight leg jeans are basically the denim style among fashion fans – especially New Yorkers. They're chilled out right now and look chic with just about anything – including the fit of this blazer.
We have seen more and more wide-leg denim silhouettes infiltrating style as a bold choice to make a statement. I saw a variety of modern outfits during NYFW that showed this rather exclusive denim style paired with everything from casual wear to more formal pieces like this bespoke look.
Instead of skinnies, many fashion girls have adopted slim, straight jeans – a kind of hybrid of skinny and straight leg. While this particular style was extremely short in length, I also noticed extra long styles that swept the floor.
