Hello there 🙂
To say life was different around this time last year would be a huge understatement. In February 2020 I was fully in planning mode for lots of fun in spring and summer: festivals, a trip to Hawaii, weekend trips, all the excuses to wear my favorite warm weather outfits and show off a fresh pedicure. (Two things that always put me in a good mood.) While I'm in no hurry to rediscover how to put a week's worth of outfits in my hand luggage, I miss preparing for a breezy vacation dress and Who What Wear Senior Editor Allyson Payer is on the same page. She told me that from her home in North Carolina, where she works remotely and it's currently not that mild 35 degrees, she pounded into her stylish Staycation wardrobe to stay positive while our usual escapes are still us dodge for a while.
While Allyson admits wistfully scrolling through photos of the hotel where she and her husband honeymooned in Mexico while sipping homemade margaritas, she tells me that she relied on her outfits to keep her mood everyday determine. Her aesthetic is modern, relaxed, and trending, which makes her the perfect person to suggest fashionable pieces that evoke a sense of vacation style. At the moment Allyson is looking for fashionable pieces to wear around the house while chilling out, and as a longtime Birkenstock fan – like most fashion fans, TBH – she has of course already jumped on the new Gizeh Big Buckle Sandal. which is available exclusively on Zappos. The comfort and easy-going energy make it a major player in Allyson's wardrobe before spring even comes, and gives her WFH 'the feel of a daily stay just south of her ankles. Keep scrolling to see her stylish spring looks featuring this season's must-have sandals and loads of feel-good vibes for weekends and weekdays.
Though batik and cozy pieces had their moment over the winter (my cluttered drawers are proof), Allyson is ready to make room for something new. "I look forward to swapping out my sweats for higher-fitting sets in neutral colors," she says. And it makes sense. A chic neutral matching set is something that makes people fashionable always Pack it in your capsule vacation wardrobe – it's comfortable, effortless, easy to combine and super polished.
And paired with Birkenstocks? It's the perfect look. Oversize Statement Gold Hardware was on every editors' must-have list last season, and they're going nowhere. "My feet love them, but I also like the way they make any casual outfit a little cooler," says Allyson.
Allyson's second outfit has this great French girl-on-staycation look and it's me Here for this. And while some fear wearing jeans at home, she tries hard to do it. "It puts me in productivity mode," she says. "I've probably worn this outfit combination a thousand times, but it's even more fun to play with my accessories."
And honestly, I still can't get over how much I love this particular Birkenstock color. (Just check out my shopping cart now!) It's definitely a good neutral, but the yellow gives off just the right amount of happy, good mood for spring
Another fun trend that Allyson is hugging for spring is adding relaxed pants to her wardrobe instead of shorts. "This is such a good home outfit as it is very unconstrained, but I feel a lot more productive than a tracksuit."
And if you're investing in just one shoe for the season, let's face it: it will most likely be a black pair. "The black birch canes are the perfect, casually polished compliment," explains Allyson. And so I'm sold.
