It's no secret – balanced, abundantly hydrated skin is the undeniable gateway to smoother, moisturized, youthful– looking skin. (Trust me – my 73-year-old father looks ten years younger every time I force a heavy drop of face cream on him.) Oddly, however, so many popular skin care products in this department work badly against us. An alarming number of cleansers are overly harsh – they remove essential moisture from our skin and precariously imbalance the delicate microbiome of our skin. Let's not start with toners … many of which are notorious for being way too sour and biting off our dew-starved winter skin.
Of course, not all cleansers and toners are the devil incarnate for sensitive skin, but as beauty editors we give a lot more than we should due to unfavorable ingredient lists that we know will only dry out our skin. So we couldn't have been more excited when our non-toxic, sustainably manufactured sister skincare line, Versed, announced their latest product launch: a milky, dreamy silk cleanser that not only effectively detoxifies and deeply cleanses the pores, but also pays off by helping the skin with it revitalized with a hearty dose of nutritious moisture. Here's everything you need to know about Versed's new Gentle Cycle Milky Cleanser ($ 15). We'll also give you a handful of honest reviews and complementary favorite products from our brand. Keep scrolling!
This is not your average cleaner folks. That's not even your average moisturizing cleanser. Instead, think of this foam-free face wash as a five-for-one gem that effectively cleanses with the same finesse and TLC as the gentle cycle you would use on your most precious delicacies. It's pH balanced to protect your skin's delicate barrier while quenching its thirst with luscious, high-quality nutrients for optimal hydration and a silky smooth finish. It's ideal for all skin types (including acne prone!), But it's especially good for anyone who has particularly dry or sensitive skin. Or, you know, just anyone dealing with the inevitable winter skin fears right now. We all are, right?
Additionally, double cleaners and non-double cleaners alike fall for the marshmallow-like texture and how easily it melts into your skin to effortlessly remove any build-up residue, grease, makeup, and grime. We feel that you also appreciate that the packaging is made from 50% post-consumer recycling (PCR) plastic. Like all brothers and sisters in the Versed family, the formula is vegan, cruelty free, and non-toxic. (To get to the point what "non-toxic" means for Versed, you will definitely not find any of the following information in the skin-safe recipe: artificial fragrances and dyes, parabens, silicones, sulfates (SLS / SLES), added phthalates, formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasing agents, PEGs, NPE, BHT, triclosan, triclocarban, petroleum, coal tar, mineral oil, talc, microplastics, hydroquinone and more.)
Editor's note: Please recycle! Remove the pump and discard all parts. Rinse out any remaining product and throw the bottle in the trash. (Versed announces that the PCR-PET is a # 1 plastic and is widely accepted by municipal recycling plants.)
Oat milk: Fun fact, colloidal oatmeal is known to be one of the most soothing, anti-inflammatory ingredients that you can use to treat dry, irritated skin. And luckily, Verseds Gentle Cycle Milky Cleanser is full of them. In addition to the above soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, it also contains other soothing skin boosters like lipids, beta-glucan, fatty acids, and antioxidants. It's like a velvet-lined cradle for your face.
Probiotics: By now, you've probably heard how good probiotics are for your skin. (And if you haven't, check out our article here.) Essentially, these healthy bacteria help keep skin balanced, promote skin clarity, and keep breakouts at bay. You will likely notice a decrease in redness as well.
Marula oil: This rich, moisturizing vegetable oil hydrates dehydrated, dry skin and smoothes out rough texture or redness. According to Versed, it's an abundance of dew and elasticity-promoting fatty acids and even contains naturally occurring antioxidants like vitamin E.
Blackberry vinegar: We love when products contain cool, highly potent ingredients that you don't see every day, and we're especially excited about this one that acts like a natural astringent close to the skin. It helps restore balance to the skin while eliminating pimple-causing bacteria, and it plays especially well with the detergent's probiotics to keep your skin's microbiome calm, cool, and collected.
This is the fun part as the sky is the limit for the cleaning options you get with this detergent. As mentioned above, this is not a foamy, foamy, foamy cleaner. So don't expect a blistered face when massaging it into your complexion. (Psst! This is a good thing – your skin will never feel tight, itchy, dry, or peeled off!)
Using circular motions, the brand recommends gently working a quarter amount into dry skin, adding some water with your fingertips, and massaging for a full minute. (The more product you use, the creamier and milky it will get on your face.) Then rinse it off well and do the rest of your skin care routine, whether you're using it on AM or PM. You can also use it on its own or as the first step in a double cleaning routine to easily liquefy and remove makeup and / or everyday grime.
