Hello there 🙂
Welcome to the great gap between Gen Z and Millennial. The younger generation has some pretty polarizing opinions that hold everyone on both sides in their arms. While I've definitely sided with some things (for one thing, I don't own skinny jeans anymore, but I'm a huge fan of avocado toast), I still feel trapped between the two groups and according to the internet, it's because I'm me am technically a Zillennial.
Those of us born between 1992 and 1998 are part of the microgeneration that is not entirely Gen Z, but also not entirely Millennial. We went there to switch from flip phones to smartphones, but we still remember the days of floppy disks and dial-up internet. It was a specific time to say the least. With the new and fairly distinct Gen Z aesthetic that's on the rise in the fashion world, I felt compelled to share my thoughts.
Everyone you speak to will have their own opinion on what is really worth being bought, skipped over, and worn by all of the new trends on the market. As a member of this intermediate generation, I definitely draw the line between wanting to wear the latest and reluctance to be traumatized when I saw the Y2K fashion I wore in my uncomfortable days in middle school making a comeback. With that I have compiled my list that I personally look forward to trying now and that I will say a tough no to.
Y2K Camis: As much as I love the all things resurgence in 2000, this is a trend I've worn a lot as a tween and I just don't feel like revisiting it. Too early for me!
Low-rise everything: Gen Z amazes me with their love for low-top jeans. While I'm here for a casual pants moment, I've tried to accept low climbs in the past and I just don't care about them.
Exposed straps: This feels self-explanatory, but if I don't get to a costume party dressed up as Manny Santos from Degrassi, it's a little too wild for me.
Shield sunglasses: I admit they look so cool on other people, but I prefer to stick with the classics when it comes to glasses.
Exposed yoga pants: I love you Emma Chamberlain, but these bring back some uncomfortable memories of middle school that I would rather not relive. It is classic leggings.
