Hello there 🙂
I'm just going to come out and say it: oil got a bad cut in the world of skin care. It took years to get the industry back after the oil-free marketing craze of the '90s desperately sucked sebum from our skin and pushed all kinds of oils out of our routines. We now know that this blanket categorization of oil as a nasty, erupting substance that only serves to clog our pores and ruin our lives was not only unfair but grossly uninformed.
Of course, not all oils are ideal for all skin types, but the same is true for just about every other skin care ingredient. As beauty editors, we had a front row seat for the oil redemption tour and are well informed of all the potential benefits of integrating in different phases of our routine. In addition, oils develop daily. This is why we were so excited when our sister clean, sustainable skincare line, Versed, announced that it would be launching its own oil (of a kind) earlier this winter. The following innovative oil serum is unlike any other product out there. Here's everything you need to know about Versed's Sunday Morning Antioxidant Oil Serum ($ 20), along with honest reviews from our editors. Keep scrolling for all of the tea. As I mentioned above, this isn't your average skin care oil … or your average serum. This fact becomes quite clear even on an initial examination of the visible separation of liquids in the bottle. If you're familiar with old-school makeup removers, this isn't a completely new picture, but it's still not every day that you see a skin care product that has separated oil and dripped onto the bottom of the bottle. But the magic of this dew booster isn't in what it looks like – it's in the versatility of use. A simple shake mixes all of the delicious ingredients together to apply to the skin at once for a two-phase punch of moisture and lightening. In the oil phase, antioxidants, fatty acids, vitamins and omegas are needed to promote plump, clear and calm skin. The water then pours in to impart anti-inflammatory plant extracts and moisturizers like sodium hyaluronate to heal cell damage, smooth out uneven textures, and nourish the skin. The best part is that people of all skin types, from dry and flaky to oily and acne prone, can benefit from it. It can be pressed into bare skin, layered on top of other serums, or even given under or on top of the moisturizer to strengthen the skin at every step of the routine. Its antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties make it a great choice for those with acne-prone skin who might otherwise go without oils or thick moisturizers, as well as those with sensitive skin looking for an extra layer of skin care. Camellia Oil: This antioxidant and vitamin-rich oil is one of the fastest absorbing vegetable oils. It does not make it greasy, but still effectively prevents moisture loss. Sea Buckthorn Berry Extract: You've probably seen this vibrant extract on ingredient lists before, and that's because of its ability to increase elasticity and protect against cell damage. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce swelling and redness. Therefore, it is great for treating skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea. Chamomile flower extract: This medicinal herb is not only suitable for soaking in a tea to soothe the body before going to bed. It's also great for topical use to nourish, soothe, and moisturize even the most sensitive skin types. Jojoba Oil: Do You Have Oily Acne Prone Skin? Here is an oil you should know about. Since it is very similar to the natural sebum in our skin, it is perfect for regulating the skin's oil level. It's light, rich in vitamins, and anti-inflammatory. Sodium Hyaluronate: Hyaluronic acid may be the most popular of the skin's moisturizing ingredients, but that doesn't mean it's the only one that can attract and hold incredible amounts of moisture in the skin. Sodium hyaluronate is another. While it is a form of hyaluronic acid, its molecular size is even smaller, making it more moisturizing in deeper layers of the skin. First things first, you should shake the bottle well to mix the two phases. And take a moment to marvel at how the shimmering ingredients bubble and dance as they mix. Then choose your own adventure situation. You can squeeze a few drops into a clean, dry face and neck, or place on top of your favorite sera. In fact, if you prefer a weightless finish, you can skip the moisturizer entirely, but don't be afraid to put it on or under the moisturizer if you need more assistance. It offers the most beautiful moist glow when applied to the highest points of the face on top of the cream and is suitable for morning and evening use. Skin type: combination. Main skin problems: dryness and occasional breakouts. The review: This little serum oil hybrid is a joy. It is actually not a little, it comes in a generous bottle. I have a very similar product that is half the size and more than twice the price! That makes it easy for me to be liberal, even if I blame it on myself, an area that historically I have been a bit stingy with. As for the formula itself, what I notice is that it helps with lightening and makes my skin look like it is the most radiant. For those who are afraid of the heaviness of a traditional face oil, I think this hybrid is a great way to test the water as the serum makes it feel very light. As you can see, it's also very pretty to look at, and there's something oddly meditative about slowly turning the product upside down a few times to mix it before applying (a rushed shake is nowhere near as calming, but it is enough Emergency stop switch !). It honestly feels like I'm doing a self-care ritual looking forward to putting it on in the morning. Skin type: Combination with dryness around the mouth, especially in winter. Major skin problems: moisture retention and texture refinement. The review: Winter is the time when my combination skin turns to the dry end of the skin spectrum. It's not uncommon for me to wake up with dry, firm skin, especially around my mouth, even after wrapping the moisturizer the night before. While I occasionally experience oiliness in my T-zone and enlarged pores on my cheeks after weeks of applying heavy creams to keep my skin plump, I'm not one to cut back on the hydration department. The way I see it, I'd rather dab off any excess oil than run the risk of dry spots breaking out on my face as the day progresses. The first time I (and I mean anyway) skipped the day moisturizer was the first time I tried this oil serum. I put it on top of my regular vitamin C serum and an additional vitamin B5 hydrator, and when I completed this prep with a few drops of the Sunday morning oil serum, I felt like I didn't need to use an extra moisturizer. I can't explain how abnormal this is. My skin may play well with just serum for a few hours, but in the past the aforementioned dryness around my mouth usually occurred around noon. That hasn't been the case in the dozen times I've now replaced my moisturizer with this two-phase treatment. I love how my skin feels hydrated and bouncy without ever getting greasy. Not to mention that shaking the bottle to mix the ingredients is an absolute joy. Highly recommend giving it a try! Skin type: combination. Main skin problems: acne, uneven skin texture, pigmentation, sensitivity. Looking back: I'm pretty sure my fussy combination skin has been secretly manifesting the introduction of this dynamic oil serum for years. There's not much my complexion can tolerate. I am a bit dry, a bit sensitive / inflammatory, and very prone to acne. That particular combination left me with about ten routine products that I can use consistently without irritating or removing my skin. Many of the formulas I try seem to work at first, but eventually lead to congestion and other side effects that I don't like on my skin. Even so, this epic blend of antioxidants, vitamins and skin-nourishing natural moisturizers is hella-effective and so far has only improved my skin, not affected it. The result is just as magical and radiant as the bubbly, tangy interior. I'm not a great serum person or a great face oil person so the fact that I love this product is pretty indicative. It absorbs quickly but still leaves that pretty, misty glow on your face that doesn't feel heavy or cinematic. Haven't tried it under makeup yet, but I love how much it improves my skin on days I'm naked. I definitely recommend following the brand's advice and patting it into your skin (instead of rubbing!) For maximum radiance. I am addicted. Skin type: normal to dry. Main problems of the skin: dryness! The Review: I was a face oil virgin before trying this serum, but now I'm a convert. In the past, I was scared to try face oils because I imagined they would feel greasy and heavy and make my face look super shiny. However, this product is absorbed so quickly that it doesn't leave a greasy residue, which has proven my earlier thoughts wrong. Little did I know that only ONE product could make my skin soft, hydrated and glowing! After applying it, I don't feel like I need to put a moisturizer or anything else on, so it's a nice minimal option to add to my routine. I use it a couple of nights a week when I don't really feel like putting on a lot of product – I just wash my face and apply a few drops and I'm done. It is so easy! Next, this is the order in which you should apply your skin care regimen once and for all
