Most of the time, what the fashion world crowns an It piece and what we actually want to own are two very different things. As an editor for digital fashion, I constantly search the Internet to uncover these lively It pieces, and I became aware of the latest articles in order to achieve cult status. (I even created a column to tell you all about it every month.) What I've learned is that these "famous" items are usually not the most portable– Everything for the gram, you know?
That's why I recently took on the task of personally testing some of the most famous fashion items and giving them my brutally honest rating. Would these Bottega Veneta sandals be an easy walk? Would these Gucci sunglasses look too over the top? I went to some retailers like Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue to look for those popular garments that I had seen in abundance in street style galleries and Instagram feeds, and after I brought a lot of options into my dressing rooms and the pictures had shot to prove it. I can honestly tell you which articles lived up to their hype and which simply weren't translated so well personally.

I've adored Cecilie Bahnsen's frothy tent-like dresses for a while, and although the cool girls of fashion can make her look so good, I fully expected this dress to swallow me up. The shape is anything but figure-hugging, but I really loved how it fell, and the details of the tie on the back were a charming touch. I officially add this to my wish list and plan to wear it like the model with a pair of Oxfords.
So Selena Gomez didn't guide me wrong with this wonderful Ganni number. The gathered top is so beautiful and the neckline deserves a closer look (so elegant). I also liked that the satin fabric is a bit stretchy, which makes it one of the most comfortable cocktail dresses you can imagine.
The perfect lederhosen? I think so. Nanushka's faux leather pieces can be seen everywhere in fashion right now, and after trying on these butter-soft pants, I can totally understand why. They were surprisingly light and after wearing them in the locker room, I was less than thrilled to get back into my stiff jeans.
I would be lying if I said that they are completely comfortable. They kind of pinch between the toes and are about half an inch taller than I would like, but I still add them to my "buy" section because they are obviously very cool and in a good mood Many current shoe trends like square ones Toes, crossed straps and everything that Bottega Veneta has to offer.
Hello, dream dress. First of all, everything in a pleated fabric like this will convince me. Second, the woven buckle on the back of this dress, which you can see in the reflection, is incredible. Chocolate brown is not exactly a color that I would choose for myself, but I was amazed at how beautiful it actually looked.
Okay, of everything in this issue, I would buy this dress right away, and that says something when you consider that I tried on some fun items. It's so stunning because it's such a simple dress, but it's all in the details. Notice the square neckline and pinched waist. I can already imagine wearing ankle-strap sandals on a trip to Italy.
This dress makes me feel like a funny version of myself, and I think that's great. I had seen this silhouette all over Insta in the stiffer jacquard fabric, but I enjoyed how the satin version softens the drama of the sleeves a bit, so it's definitely more wearable than I thought. The buttons on the neckline and cuffs are even better up close.

Meet Meghan Markle's favorite handbag brand that recently landed at Nordstrom. Each of his structured bags is nifty, and while Markle himself is a fan of the neutral versions, I found this wavy checkerboard print to feel really fresh and fun.
Retro "grandma" glasses are all the rage right now and I was amazed that this couple didn't make me look bug-eyed. The shape was just the right amount of oversize, and the color meets the overarching 70s trend. So I would say that these are all-round winners.
Maybe it's because I've seen this bag in my feed too many times or the mini version has already fascinated me, but this bag didn't inspire me as much as I hoped. I still like it, but it's probably not for me.
I wanted to love this dress so much because it looked gorgeous on the frame and had a cool texture, but it didn't have the same edge as the black Cecilie Bahnsen number from above, probably because the shape is a little different.
I think this could be the epitome of an "Instagram dress", i.e. H. Cool in photos, but hard to take off in real life. It makes the statement, but it felt too baby-doll-like for me.
Unlike the other sunglasses from above, the shape of these oversized sunglasses overwhelmed my face. However, sunglasses are such a personal item that I was not particularly discouraged. I know at least some cool girls who do this really well.
