Hello there 🙂
In our quest for the best timeless garments to add to our closets and keep forever, we've shared everything from the best staples from brands like Madewell to the items mother and daughter have in common. And now we're back with a new expert and her insights. Meet Yasmin Furmie, the South Africa-based style artist and designer of SiSi, a line of modern shirts.
I spotted this chic lady on Instagram one day and was immediately drawn to her creative, colorful, and expertly designed outfits. Chatting with Furmie reminded me exactly why I fell in love with fashion in the first place: how creative and personal it can be. While her style can be classified as anything but simple, she has her wardrobe basics on lock.
Not only does Furmie have great outfits, she also has the kind of style wisdom that only comes from decades of experimentation and finding what works for her. "I'm 58 years old and I love the room I am in," she told me, pointing to her confidence and self-confidence as the two precious things she has gained with age. She shared her favorite wardrobes with us and it is not surprising that they are really good. So read on for why she relies on each of the following six articles, and of course, see how she carries each one.
"A pair of sneakers is a great way to change the style of an outfit. It softens formal outfits and offers that 'fashion' factor. Plus, it's now a part of every person's wardrobe. I pair mine with whimsical socks, to make it a standout look. "
"Luxurious black pants can be dressed up or down. They can be part of a layered look (under skirts and dresses) that is one of my style traits, so that's definitely a necessity."
"A blazer is another must-have. It's versatile enough to be paired with sweatpants or skirts. I love the juxtaposition of a formal piece with something unexpected."
"The white shirt doesn't need an explanation. It's the property that everyone needs. Our collection gives me a good selection from shirts to dresses. These are also layered in monochrome looks. You can never have enough white shirts."
"I love rings – the more the merrier. I love bold pieces on my fingers and it adds to everything I style. My mom always said that when you leave home, you should take one thing off. I'll add one." I'm definitely not believing in less is more. "
"Big sunglasses can hide a lot. Too lazy to put on makeup? It's easy to hide behind a stunning pair. I have a big black pair that are pretty chic. Hide the sins I say."
