I love fashion, but few things excite me more than home decor. In a way, I see it as an extension of fashion – both of which are intimately tied to the spirit of design and trends, so it's no surprise when some of the runway's biggest themes invade the interior design space. One of the biggest ones we've noticed this season is the plaid trend. An abundance of the eye-catching print has popped up in lookbooks and shows from Gucci and Stine Goya to Christopher John Rogers and Dolce & Gabbana. Now check to see if the micro trend is showing up in all of our favorite home decor stores. If you head to the Instagram fashion page, you can likely find a plaid object in the background of some fashion girls – from carpets to vases to ceramic mugs. The appeal is simple: it's an unexpected element that is quirky, fresh, and eclectic at the same time. With neutrals heavily dominating this season (both in fashion and interior design), the pattern is a refreshing foray into the maximalist side of things. As someone who is constantly looking for interior design trends, I've already invested in a few checkered items to brighten up my home. If you want to dip your toes in the pool, skip the large area rugs and get something small like an accent pillow first. There are a lot more plaid pieces to add lift to your space. So read below to see them all.
