Hello there 🙂

Confession: Even as someone who lives, works, sleeps, and writes about beauty practically around the clock, organic makeup (categorically) feels like the twilight zone. A) There is a lot of gloom when it comes to what is "clean", "natural", "non-toxic", "green" and yes, even really "organic" in the beauty industry, and B) a lot of gloom involves brands and Products that are very inadequate in terms of their effectiveness as makeup products. Blushing becomes a stain city, mascara a flake city, a foundation a puddle city … you have the idea. To be honest, it's kind of a crapshoot, especially if you are very attached to the "organic" label.

"" Clean beauty "is a much better term for consumers because the products are non-toxic, yet effective," said cosmetics chemist Ginger King Curls, last year. "& # 39; Non-toxic" means free of undesirable ingredients listed by the environmental working group. This is better than the claim "natural" or "organic" because it is Products that work without compromising security. "

My personal philosophy has always been this: When I wear makeup (which I honestly only wear 40% of the time), I wear it for a reason. I use a concealer to hide, I use mascara to draw more attention to my favorite features (my eyelashes), or I use blush to give my complexion a little bounce. I will not wear a "clean" or "organic" beauty product just because it is "clean" or "organic". It actually has to work, and again, it's hard to ever really know what you're putting on your face just because the industry is just that (i.e., very little regulation). So I just want something that does the crap job and doesn't leave me with a rash or outbreak. (For your information, some makeup products that are too natural or too hard did just that.) Food for thought.

However, after many tests, I have discovered an intimate number of organic make-up products from amazing brands that not only look good, are easy to apply and wear with perseverance, but I trust the quality of their transparency and commitment. As a quick reminder, certified organic products can now be labeled "made with organic" or "contains organic" if they contain (at least) 70% organic ingredients. These products must contain the organic and non-organic ingredients on the label and the name of the organic certifier. (You can usually find these certifications at the end of a brand's website or in its mission statements.) However, the FDA has no definition of the term "organic" because it is not defined by Federal Food or Federal Food. Drug and Cosmetic Act or the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act, which is used as guidelines. So you can see how it all gets a little hairy, am I right?

I recommend that you do your research, decide what your needs and desires regarding the cleanliness or naturalness of your product regime are, and continue from there. While most of the brands listed below are certified organic, some are not and are only products with a handful of ingredients that are listed as organic. You do you! I did my best to help you get started in the world of organic makeup brands (or mostly organic makeup brands) that I really checked, loved and recommended. Scroll on! All of my current non-toxic favorites are below.

I've had this organic lip tint in my pocket around the clock since I discovered it on Tata Harper's website about two years ago. It's one of the few products in my arsenal that are perfect whether I wear it without makeup, a full face, or anything in between. The raspberry tint is generally flattering and gives your lips the popsicle-like stain that is so sought after. The consistency is wonderful – not sticky or sticky – and thanks to high-quality organic ingredients, my lips feel healthier and plumper and also look like this. Even with my non-organic makeup, this is the only product I can never live without.

The creator of Kora Organics, Miranda Kerr, and I agree: This light cream enriched with crystals is damn amazing. Unlike so many cream or mild highlighters, my skin doesn't look dirty or feels sticky. Instead, it melts in my complexion in a good-natured connection with all the other products that I have applied (it layers wonderfully) and gives me the softest, most beautiful shine that never becomes oily or greasy. There are three different colors. I'm just part of the rose quartz hue that has a soft and shimmering pink.

I had lost all hope of finding the clean mascara of my dreams until I finally tested this highly rated volumizing wand from W3ll People. And the reviews weren't lying! This mascara not only delivers the darkest, inkiest black color (which I love), but also creates a lot of volume and length without weighing down my long, thin eyelashes. The addition of organic, conditioning plant substances is another great advantage.

I've never loved tinted moisturizers or tinted sunscreens. The colors are usually all wrong or the consistency and texture are off. This fresh off Ilia press release seems to be the exception. It not only provides the perfect indication of the cover for those days when I still want to be largely naked, but also keeps my quick-drying skin hydrated and radiant thanks to bio-squalane in addition to hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. It is a powerhouse for makeup and skin care!

Get to know the organic makeup product that made me a stick makeup person. This highlight stick from Cocokind is enriched with cool adaptogens from certified organic mushrooms and increases your shine with pretty, moisturizing ingredients and oils such as jojoba and castor oil. I love the bright, shimmering pink shade called Mai-Light, but I also love mixing it with the slightly bronze iteration (see below) called Chagaglo. It's perfect on your cheekbones, around your temples, or right on your Cupid's bow.

Henné Organics is a brand new find, and I couldn't be more excited to discover the chic range of organic lip products and luxurious hand creams. However, since it's specifically makeup, I have to express my obsession with the brand's beautifully tinted lip balms. This bright pink shade is called Azaela and I know that it will carry me into the summer.

You should know one thing about me: I don't make powder eyeshadow. Or rather, I can and sometimes, but it rarely ends well. And it just so happens that one of my favorite formulas for liquid eyeshadows is courtesy of one of the best organic makeup brands, Crop Natural. The colors are shimmering, highly pigmented and canyons, while the application is child's play – even if you have eye make-up like me!

Leave it to a prominent makeup artist to create a luxury makeup brand with high quality organic ingredients. Of all the blushes I have (and I'm usually not even a cream girl), I keep reaching for Jillian Dempsey's easy-to-use cheek tones. The colors are designed to be generally flattering, and the consistency is easy to incorporate into the apples of your cheeks while still playing well with any other makeup you wear. If you're looking for a believable flush that I've just left the gym for, this blush is for you.

I will say this very clearly: 99% of the organic products for the eyebrows have been extremely underwhelming and embarrassing to me. Not only does this amazing gel formula with tons of organic ingredients not disappoint, but I give it high praise. I keep it in the big leagues alongside my forehead products from other (non-organic) brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills or Benefit Cosmetics. I love the invisible clear hue for days when I want to give my brows minimal makeup flair, and I reach for the light tint when I have a full face. (It also has three darker shades.)

I'm not a big lip gloss fan, but this slightly tinted, certified organic shine from Kjaer Weiss is one of the few that I can not only stand, but also really love. The subtle colors are so pretty and give my face a little shine when I feel (or look) sleepless, and it never feels sticky or heavy on my lips. Thanks to the rich infusion of oils such as rosehip, castor oil and sunflower, it will do your pout something good too. I know spending almost $ 40 on a lip gloss seems a bit steep, but this formula is a real rough diamond.

Next up: I've tried 37 non-toxic makeup products – these are the 16 that I will actually continue to use
