Hello there 🙂
A no-BS list of what I would like to use until the end of time.
Although I am still pretty green in my years as a beauty editor, the number of products that I have tested in my time at Byrdie and Who What Wear is just under (give or take) 3000. How did I get this number? In just under a week I get at least 20 products from brands that I want to test and evaluate. Multiply that by four weeks a month, then twelve months a year, then three years, and you end up with an incredible 2880 people. That's a lot of beauty products. And honestly, I'm really trying to test everything. Even if I can't use a product myself (for example, if a serum contains an ingredient that my skin is sensitive to), I'll call my mother, a trusted friend, or someone else in the office to test the formula give-drive for me. Despite the sheer volume of product and brand launches that appear to take place weekly, it is possible to keep an eye on the pulse of the beauty industry. Not surprisingly, this area has many highs (products that are really wonderful) and many lows (products that are terribly inept). Here at Who What Wear we always keep it real and only recommend the things we really tried, worn and loved for more than two minutes. Still, there is only a selection of hair, skin, makeup, and body products that I'm so happy with that I would like to use them for the rest of my life without FOMO. And here's the real kicker: I used a hearty serving of said beauty products before I was a beauty editor and just a super-nodding consumer. If you try so many products every second, you can easily forget what's really, really amazing and what's just mediocre. To get back to basics and highlight the true, best beauty products that I'm obsessed with, I made a list. After three years as a beauty editor and after testing about 3000 beauty products, here are my top 39. Scroll on! I've never felt passionate about a body wash, except for this one – an organic, detoxifying cleanser for your body with the perfect balance of foam and soothing fragrance. An uncomplicated, non-irritating lotion (I become fragrance-free so as not to interfere with the fragrance that I wear) that is filled with skin-improving oils, vitamins and other essential nutrients. I can't explain it, but this is the best razor ever made. I will never use anything else, thanks! My favorite candle of all time – an intoxicating mixture of crystallized ginger, rose, vanilla, tuberose, grapefruit, white wood, heliotrope and musk. I am addicted to this straightforward electric toothbrush and the copper finish looks pretty in my bathroom. Everyone needs a Byredo hand wash in their life – guests will love it. The perfect hair oil – clear (so that it doesn't get stained on color-treated hair), light and inexpensive. Aside from shampoo and conditioner, this all-purpose hair product is really the only other hair product I would ever need in my life – a real desert island need that detangles, repels, repels, shines, strengthens, repairs … everything. I tried what feels like thousands of dry shampoos. Amika's cult favorite is the one I always come back to. It absorbs oil without leaving any rough texture or residue. Many will try, but nothing can beat the restorative and repairing treatment of Olaplex. It is solely responsible that my bleached threads stay on my head and are unbreakable! I have a bunch of briefs of different sizes of silk scrunchies on my vanity. I use it to make my hair a high bun every night to keep my style. And mostly I always have one on my wrist. A message from me and every single celebrity hairdresser I've ever spoken to. Please do not use a normal towel to dry or wrap your hair after washing. Instead, use one of these brilliant light twists from Aquis. I understand that not everyone is a self-tanning person. That said, if you are, or if you're curious, this one from the Australian brand Bondi Sands is the best I've tried in a long time. It really gives you the coveted "golden" tan, it lasts forever, smells wonderful (like coconut!) And fades – God bless you – so evenly. (Please be sure to use a mitt!) Once you've tried these Koh Gen Do cleansing wipes, you will never use anything else to clean your face if necessary, refresh yourself after a workout, or wipe away stubborn makeup. They are made from certified organic cotton in Japan and soaked in mineral-rich spa cleansing water and other soothing ethereal herbs. Everyone I consult agrees with me: this cleanser is really the best when it comes to removing dirt, grime and make-up from your complexion. You don't have to be very strategic with your detergent, and this detergent is perfect for day, night, and every skin type. If you stumble across the price, all you need is a penny, making a bottle last twice as long as other options. If you are prone to acne, use this AHA / BHA cleanser a few times a week at night to prevent future breakouts, eliminate current ones, and achieve smoother, more even skin texture. I was recently obsessed with this Facile serum essence hybrid, which contains green tea extract, hyaluronic acid and soothing aloe. I apply it after cleaning and before my sun protection factor or moisturizer. It moisturizes immediately and sustainably and makes my complexion noticeably brighter, plumper and moist. The M-61's glow-enhancing peel pads are groundbreaking. Use them a few nights a week to exfoliate your skin easily, and you'll wake up with a smoother, lighter, and healthier looking complexion. I can't live without them and they are one of the best skin care products on the market, IMO. Expensive? Yes. But the name of this eye angel is not lying. It helps lift up tired eyes and reduce dark circles, and it's also magical under makeup or undereye concealer. Obsessed. I will never stop talking about this lip product. It is magic. It bounces your lips, keeps them hydrated for hours, and is not too sticky or slippery. But I'm also obsessed with this Fresh lip balm – don't let me choose! It has the most delicious taste / smell, keeps my lips brittle forever, improves their shape and is also great under makeup. (I usually overlay those from PCA Skin!) I don't know anything about you, but I have about 10 tons of tension in my jaw. Ugh – stress, am I right? Unfortunately, this facial massager from Joanna Czech is a make-up artist's secret to lifting and promoting drainage and blood circulation. I like to roll out my facial knots at the end of the long day, or to stroke my complexion before a night to prevent bloating the next day. If you want to buy a brow serum, make it this. I swear that Joey's formula of formula accelerates my growth, but I also swear it is the absolute best pomade / clear gel. I use it every morning to comb and brush my brows while reaping all the growth and nutritional benefits during the day! There are only three primers that I believe in a million percent, and this Tarte hyaluronic acid-enriched primer is the absolute best. Apply it after the moisturizer and the primer, and your makeup will never look the same (in the best possible way). Believe it or not, there is a big difference between eyelash curlers. As someone who hasn't spent a day in my life since seventh grade without curling my long eyelashes, I can say with absolute certainty that Lash Star is the absolute best model for a raised, long-lasting curl. Yes – my favorite foundation of all time costs less than $ 20 and is available at the drugstore. Your skin looks pore-free and with an airbrush. There are two types of people in the world: Beautyblender Stans and Foundation Brush Stans. I am the first and cannot live without mine. Tip: Wash your sponge every day before using it with a good old, fragrance-free soap (like Dove) and water. Your skin stays cleaner and your blender lasts longer! I have a few concealers that I really like very much, but if I had to choose just one for the rest of my life, I would have to choose this little baby from MAC. It stops, it covers amazingly well and the color palette is fantastic. I wish I could say I had never put it through a 24 hour test as the name suggests, but I definitely did and it definitely held up. I use my beauty blender to apply it. Since it is a long-lasting formula (and therefore is not particularly moisturizing), I spray my beauty blender again with rose water before I start with the concealer. (I love Chantecaille.) This lightening powder under the eyes is the key to a wrinkle-free and radiant, super-alert look. I will use it for the rest of my life. If you like a powder highlighter, TheBalm will finish your search for the perfect luminizer. I know you haven't heard of it yet, but you have to trust me. That said, if you're a liquid or cream highlight, Armani Beauty has this OG elixir, which is still what I call the ultimate gold standard. I have been using it since college and I still insist on buying it despite the higher price. Do not get me wrong. I love Nars’s cult classic, but frankly, I think Hourglass’s better. I used to use them all the time – diffused heat and radiant magenta are my favorite colors – and then I tried a lot of new brands and recipes. When I recently returned and used Diffused Heat again, it felt like I was coming home. If it ain't broke! Entertaining fact: you can buy a regular size or adorable minis. This may be a controversial opinion, but after many tests I call Tarte's double-sided liner the absolute best. I like to use the pencil end to get between my eyelashes and along my waterline, and then the liquid side is perfect for cuts and more dramatic cat eyes when you're so inclined. I appreciate the variety of colors and have recently drawn to brown for a more subtle change. Bronzer is hard and I think I've been convinced 10 times that I loved 10 different bronzers. But in terms of color and application, I firmly believe that Too Faced offers the absolute best options. I know the packaging and chocolate-enriched recipe may look cute, but this bronzer takes precedence. I recently came back to this after trying about 40 other bronzers. For your information: There is a matt and a shimmering version. I prefer the mat, but you do it yourself! I'm a bit of a mascara and a lash, but I force myself to choose a mascara and mascara only here. Glossier's is the best for length and separation, no questions asked. And if you wait a hot second between shifts, the volume will actually get better than expected. When I wear makeup, I never leave the house without spraying my face with this legendary setting spray. Seriously, I'm known to get up to five minutes from home and have to go back for a dose of this magical mist. I'm not a big eyeshadow person, but on days (or nights) when I want to have a little more than my bronzer or blush (which I often use to add depth to my lids), I will apply a hint of it Lid Luster by Victoria Beckham Beauty. They are breathtaking on their own or overlay everything you normally use for your eyes. Somehow the finish never borders on OTT or cheesy – no matter how wildly you go about your application. Perhaps that's predictable, but the combination of Charlotte Tilbury's lipstick (top) and lipstick (bottom) is always the answer for me. Pillow Talk and Walk of Shame are my two favorite colors. Although this lipstick is technically matte, I guess the formula is so nourishing and moisturizing that you are far from scratching and flaking. Addicted!
