Hello there 🙂
While it would be nice if every pair of jeans we bought had the perfect stride, it is hardly ever the case, as we all know from experience. Most jeans for women come in one Stride length, which increases the likelihood that they're suitable for bodies of any size, especially if we add different shoe styles to the equation. That said, there are several things that we can consider when shopping for jeans and visiting the tailor, and we have only found the professional who sums it all up for us.
Katya Torres is the owner of Denim Surgeon, the New York City-based denim tailoring experts who torment, repair, and perfect the fit of every pair of jeans that get in their way. We've consulted Torres on the most flattering length for both small and tall women, and her tips are sure to answer any questions you may have about the inside seams of jeans.
Read on to see what Torres recommends when it comes to flattering jeans lengths, styles, and tailoring tips, and buy the best jeans for smaller and taller women.
"For very small women like me (I'm 5 & # 39; 2"), avoid very wide and boxy jeans, "Torres suggests." Bell bottoms are fine if you only want to wear them with (very) high heels or wedges that are completely covered by the hem of the jeans. It is a great optical illusion. Narrow-cut (tapered) or straight-cut jeans flatter smaller women, whether they are short, ankle or standard length. We recommend a stride length of at least 21 inches. Avoid jeans that are too long, as they cause a large break (also known as stacking) and look sloppy. A proper hem on jeans is crucial for a smaller or dainty woman. Hems with raw edges also look good, but always remember that the right length is key. "
For taller women, Torres says: "Everything is really possible. High-waisted jeans look great, whether they are slim and long or relaxed and short. From personal experience for tall women, the length of jeans is usually a question of personal preference and The rule of thumb, however, is that if the customer is looking for a leg that looks longer, we will work with the longest stride possible. A shorter stride length (e.g. cut off or ankle length) breaks the vertical – Denim flow and legs don't seem to be that long . "
