H&M x Lee: 100 percent sustainable

The focus of the joint collection of the Swedish fashion chain and the American jeans label is primarily the Sustainability – from design to production. For this reason, H&M has pulled out all the stops for this collaboration in order to find perfect solutions for making the sewing thread of the jeans, the cotton from which it is made and also the metal for buttons, rivets and zippers as sustainable as possible can be. The result? The first jeans made from 100 percent recycled cotton. This consists of 80% production waste and 20% consumer waste. The patches on the back are made of leather-free cork and Jacron paper, made with Lyocell cellulose sewing thread and all metal parts are not coated and non-toxic. In addition to this model, there are also pieces made of cotton-free denim, which is made from renewable synthetic fibers. But not only the materials are sustainable, the production is also more environmentally friendly.

So were for the jeans water-saving colorantswith which up to 80 percent water can be saved, and denim washes with less negative environmental impact used. The company is also using this collection publish the life cycle assessment data for the first time. What does that mean for you? With this data, you can understand the water and CO2 as well as energy effects of every garment from raw materials to end use. You can't be more transparent, right?

For the sake of the environment

With this innovative collaboration, H&M and Lee join a large number of brands whose work is always looking for new ways to make the clothing industry's biggest polluter again become an environmental friend: Jeans! It is not the first time that the fashion company has experimented with new materials. In the “H&M Conscious Exclusive” collection, the company has not only shown more extravagant styles for years, but also the variety of innovative and, above all, sustainably sourced materials. In addition to fibers from certified wood and recycled plastic from ocean waste, materials that are made from organic waste in wine production or that can be converted into a new type of biofiber from crop waste from food production have also been used here.

In 2030 only sustainable fashion

Currently, 57 percent of all products at H&M are made from sustainable materials. There is more, right? The Swedish textile giant thinks that too and has set itself the goal of only selling products made from sustainable materials by 2030.
