Spring trends! Is it really that time of year already ?! We are just before mid-February, and while the temperatures are still cold and the days are still short, we officially saw the light at the end of the tunnel, where lighter, brighter, and warmer days are immediately ahead. And while we've already spent time predicting some of the biggest makeup trends of 2021, we thought we'd be making a miniature trend report for Spring 2021 in particular.
In spring we often think of fresh skin, bright colors and whimsical surfaces, but given the nature of our world this year (masks, more time indoors … you know the drill), the kind of trends we're used to seeing this The season could be a little different. So I reached out to Hailey Bieber's makeup artist, bareMinerals Global Makeup Ambassador, Denika Bedrossian, to find out which makeup trends are starting to bubble and which are to be sparkling in spring.
"You know, I think everyone has been trying to get creative with their makeup over the past year because we wear masks so often," notes Bedrossian. "This very sharp, carved eye makeup has become a huge trend on social media and across the industry, but I feel like it's wearing off. We're all ready for sunlight and clean, lightweight products."
Below, Bedrossian shares the four biggest makeup trends to expect for Spring 2021, in addition to their top tips and product recommendations for every look. Keep scrolling!
"With all the downtime this year and last, I have the feeling that less is more," says Bedrossian straight away. "I love an over-the-top, juicy, and hydrated lip, so I'm really excited to see BareMinerals launch a brand new shine that will be out later this month."
According to Bedrossian, the newcomer will be the ultimate hybrid – part glossy shine, part nourishing balm, and equal parts buttery, heavenly, and layer-friendly. Until its release later this month, we recommend an OG favorite from the brand, the Moxie Plumping Lip Gloss, which you can buy right below! Pro tip: do like Bedrossian and try using the applicator to apply your mild shine directly to your lips and pat it out with your finger for a softer finish.
Any makeup artist will tell you that skin prep is just as important (or even more important than) the actual makeup. For Spring 2021, however, Bedrossian mostly sees skin care products and moist serums stealing the limelight for glowing, fresh-looking skin.
She recommends swapping out all heavy foundations for glowing skin care elixirs. If you then opt for a slightly better coverage, you can use a light primer afterwards. "To get a really moist and refreshing look, I love two different collections from BareMinerals – both the Ageless and SkinLongevity lines. My daily goal is the SkinLongevity Long Life Herb Serum. It makes your skin moist, nourished and silky Pro Tip: Multitask your serum! Bedrossian recommends using it on its own, instead of your regular foundation, under foundation and at night before bed.
While we're excited to dive into the Bedrossian nude but glowing skin trend mentioned above, there will always be times when we would want an extra hit with subtle coverage. At times like these, Bedrossian recommends opting for a liquid mineral foundation formula (or anything that feels particularly comfortable and light on your skin) this coming spring.
"A great foundation that is clean and light will be a perfect buy this spring," she affirms. "My favorite foundation at the moment is the OriginalLiquid Mineral Foundation by BareMinerals. It is extremely versatile and suitable for all skin types. In addition, the naturally glowing finish wears on all day without clogging the pores, causing breakouts or getting stuck in lines for me and my clients. "Pro Tip: A flawless foundation finish pretty much depends on how seamlessly the formula blends into your skin and melts. According to Bedrossian, warming up your bottle by shaking it well is an easy hack to keep things moving. Then go inside with your fingers. "Use your fingers to puncture, sweep, and squeeze – the warmth of your body will help warm the product so that it blends perfectly with the skin," she explains.
"Since in-store testing isn't an option right now, it's really great to have virtual classes and color customizations," Bedrossian says. "Many brands, including BareMinerals, offer these things and help you find the perfect shade."
