While the current climate is certainly challenging, I'm trying to look at the positive side of things and focus on the positive aspects that social distancing and staying at home can bring – by coping with the stack of books that I have wanted to read until catching up on last year's Oscar-nominated film list for video chats with distant friends that I haven't seen in a while. These activities have helped me feel happier and calmer as I tried to navigate these unsafe waters. Another area that I've channeled my nervous energy into is working on projects that I've been on my to-do list for months and that I haven't had time for, like cleaning up my closet.
Now I not only wanted to clear out my closet in the typical sense to collect items that I no longer wear to donate, but I really wanted to take stock of my wardrobe and use that time to create new outfits for parts that i already own. I chose an item from my wardrobe that I really love and used Instagram and Pinterest to inspire outfit ideas for this item so that I could surround it with similar items that are already in my closet. This way, once I get back to my normal everyday life, I have an arsenal of new looks to wear – without expanding my wardrobe or spending money. It will also help rekindle my excitement about some of my favorite items.
The first piece I started with is my favorite oversize blazer. Since most of us have a blazer in their closets, I thought it might be helpful to share all of the new outfits I've saved so you can use them too. Of course, there are blazers in all different colors and silhouettes in these photos, but they are a good basis for an outfit combination that you can use in equal parts from your own wardrobe to create something similar. From the dress-and-boot look that feels like a fall back in the 90s to the updated pair of jeans and sneakers that feels so current, below are the 17 awesome spring blazer outfits I listed in in the coming months.
A modern update to the classic combination of blazer and pants is to tighten the waist with a thin leather belt. This creates a different silhouette and feels a little more thoughtful than just the blazer and pants.
Get to know the 2020 version of a blazer, jeans, and sneakers – this combination is as timeless as it gets, but you can make it feel current by adding straight-leg jeans and a thicker sneaker.
If you have a skirt in the same color as your blazer, this outfit is for you. Simply add a turtleneck or t-shirt underneath and finish off with a knee-high boot that is a fun outfit.
This is one of my favorite blazer looks – it feels very 90s, but somehow also very modern. To recreate this outfit, look for a mini dress similar in color to your blazer, secure the button closure, and add knee high boots.
Another modern twist on a classic combination: start with straight-leg jeans, add a white t-shirt and blazer. Choose a pair of polished flats for the twist to complete the look.
This is my other favorite idea as it feels modern and classic at the same time. Start with a t-shirt dress, put on your waist with a belt, put on your favorite blazer, and finish off with the cowboy boots you bought last year.
I have a feeling that this is screaming 2020 because it is a proven combination that feels modern with a few simple additions. Pick your favorite blazer and tailored pants, add chunky sneakers and a thin belt to define your waist, and then wrap your favorite cozy scarf around your neck to complete your look.
A blazer outfit with shorts just feels so fresh to me, especially when it is combined with a matching crop top and pointed toe shoes.
I've never been one to wear leggings with my blazer, but this outfit makes me rethink it. This combo feels 80s and modern at the same time and is a comfortable option that I will definitely replicate.
A Carrie Bradshaw outfit if I've ever seen one. This funky outfit is a fun way to show personality. The innovative combination of blazer, t-shirt, sporty shorts, colorful sandals and a newspaper boy's hat asks for compliments.
The refined blazer outfit of my dreams! Start with a mini dress, wear your blazer over it, put on sheer tights, and finish off the chunky boots to give this polished look a certain edge.
I never thought that a denim shorts outfit could be so chic. I'm a big fan of the trend of longer denim shorts, so this spring I'm going to add a t-shirt, blazer, and sleek minimalist sandals to mine.
This is a classic combination with a twist: swap your typical jeans or pants for lederhosen to give your look a chic update.
Wow just wow. If you're brave enough to mix prints, this is an outfit combination that I highly recommend. Take your favorite printed blouse, add pants with a different print, and complement them with your blazer for an outfit that no one else will wear.
This outfit combination is classic for a reason – it just works. Combine your favorite blazer with a t-shirt and skinny jeans and then put on your sporty sneakers to give the timeless outfit combination a 2020 note.
This is the first outfit I will copy once social distancing is complete. Sweat is a great way to get dressed and stay comfortable. The baseball hat and blazer are also trendy right now, so I think this is the definition of a perfect outfit.
Bra tops are another key trend in spring 2020. Just pick your favorite tops, add high-waisted pants, and put on your blazer to get a simple outfit that feels just right.
