First, not all trends are created equal. There's the overarching silhouettes that we discuss each season in our big trend report, and then the hyper-specific ones that we're about to let you know about today. They are the niche but still notable winter Instagram fashion trends that are appearing on our feeds right now. More precisely, we limit ourselves to that above Trends we notice the most because there are just too many to ignore. We had the idea that these would become popular, but now that the outfits and purchases have confirmed it, we can confidently say that they are 100% a thing.
Since winter 2021 is all about casual but cool looks and convenient staples, these trend pieces are at the cozy and easy-to-wear end of the fashion spectrum. Think redesigned knitwear, funky sweater vests, and asymmetrical tops that are so easy to pull on with jeans. Each of the six trends that we list below appeared out of nowhere, but cannot now be ignored. So read through our review and buy our favorites. You know before all of your friends do.
There are some trends that you can find and then there are some trends that you can find. While performing my normal online window shopping routine, I noticed ruffles bubbling from every corner of the internet from H&M to Revolve, especially those flirty tops that I would wear to a (socially distant) party ASAP.
We noticed that the necklines on long-sleeved T-shirts, knitwear and bodysuits have taken on a new asymmetrical shape. Whether it's a neckline or a neckline that slips off a single shoulder, these create a distinctly angular shape around the neckline and create a subtle but exciting new look.
When we say complicated, we're talking about all of the cutouts, crossings, and "peekaboo" details we've been seeing on knitwear lately. While these are just as cozy and as your simple sweaters, they definitely add a little spice to the mix.
Haters will say these sweater vests are ugly, but we think they're so fun. You take the "grandpa" in bright colors and bold, funky prints to the point. And of course they are approved by Emma Chamberlain.
This isn't the first time we've talked about these "second skin" tops, but we felt the need to mention them again as they're one of those trends that is both runway legal and surprisingly wearable.
Lingerie-inspired dressing is still very important right now, and the ongoing aesthetic is creating another micro-trend: underwire tops. Similar to bustier tops, these have underwire details and give simple tops a little more.
Next, discover the trend that will end thin leather pants as we know them.
