Hello there 🙂
How does your skin feel these days? Mine has been particularly dry and boring lately – maybe a direct result of my skincare going off a bit and temperatures changing here on the west coast. Because of this, I'm always on the lookout for tips and tricks to improve my skin in ways that I can easily do myself at home. Fortunately, a friend put me in touch with the medical esthetician Candace Marino, also known as "The LA Facialist". With a large celebrity clientele, she has the magical ability to #radiantAF your skin as she posts on her Instagram page.
Of course, I immediately reached out to Candace and asked her to share some of the most effective things we can do at home to improve our skin. From Triple Cleansing to Facial Massages, scroll down to find out her pro tips for healthy skin and which breakthrough products she recommends.
"A thorough nighttime cleanse may seem like a breeze, but it's actually a step that is either skipped or not done properly. Removing makeup, sunscreen, dirt, and oil that builds up on your skin is for you." Healthy complexion is essential. When we fall asleep with the day's dirt on our skin. We disrupt our skin's ability to repair and renew itself overnight, and we allow free radicals to damage our cells during a time when ours Should rejuvenate skin.
Because so many people don't clean their skin properly, I developed it triple cleaning method (This is for makeup wearers) to make sure the skin is thoroughly cleansed before bed. The triple cleansing is a cleansing step to remove makeup with a cleansing oil or balm (not a makeup towel that strips off / dries the makeup and really just moves it), followed by a double cleanse to thoroughly cleanse the skin clean. This is also for Makeup wearer.
I developed this after seeing clients come in for an early morning facial and see makeup residue from the night before. I would ask them if they cleaned their skin before bed and they would all say "yes, I did double cleanse" which is the gold standard in the industry. Since so many women had double cleansed and still had makeup left over, I decided to recommend an oil-based cleanser as a first step and so the triple clean came about. "
"Do your full PM routine every night. Outside of cleansing your skin, doing your nightly routine is essential for healthy, beautiful skin. Since the PM routine is easy to skip when you're falling asleep on the couch, I tell myself." Clients to get their routine done as soon as they're in for the night. Don't wait until you're already tired of doing your routine. Do it when you walk through the door so it's done and out of the way . ""
"Exfoliating treatments like Peel pads, masks or gentle scrubs are the best way to exfoliate your skin and function properly.
Exfoliating is really the key to keeping the skin youthful. The goal as we get older is to have a very thin, compact outermost layer of skin and a thick dermis. A thin stratum corneum makes our skin shine and ensures that our serums and creams can penetrate well.
When people have chronically dry skin, nine out of ten, they have skin that is asking for an exfoliator. When you keep hydrating the skin that needs exfoliating, you are actually building up the dead layer of cells. The products added to the dead cells form a glue-like layer that becomes thicker and harder, and over time makes the skin extremely rough and unable to retain moisture. A peeling keeps the skin happy, healthy and functions optimally. "
Treat yourself to a little love! Take a little more time for a facial massage one day a week (or longer). Not only does the facial massage feel amazing, it's a great way to energize the skin and stimulate. When we massage, we encourage oxygen-rich blood cells to flow into the area of stimulation that makes us glow from within. Massage also helps drain lymphatic fluid and remove toxins from the skin, thereby altering our natural contours peel and stick out. Varying Shaping Techniques can be used to lift and tighten the skin – I like to use hands, but Gua Sha and electrical devices like NuFace are a great way to add a little more TLC to your skin. "
"This has long been a trend in the industry, and there are many devices on the market, but I'm a big believer in RED LED therapy for the skin and the entire body. Outside of its healing and collagen stimulating effects, LED Therapy is an incredible mood enhancer, it helps all of the body's recovery processes and even helps you get a better night's sleep.
I love Vital Red Light's LED panel (the devices have been tested by third-party vendors to prove that the LED does something, unlike so many companies that have colored light that does nothing to the cells.) This panel will literally light up your entire space. Ten minutes a day has a huge impact on the appearance of your skin, as well as your overall health and wellbeing. I cannot emphasize this practice enough – it has really changed my life, I feel better, and have more energy when I conform to this practice. "
"Drinking water is recommended for all aspects of health, of course, but I am a big believer in eating water-rich foods like watermelon, strawberries, cucumber, lettuce, oranges, peaches, celery, zucchini. Because these foods are filled with other minerals and vitamins, they help store more water for the body instead of drinking tons of water that really just flushes the body out. We need minerals to hold water in the cells. So if you are really dehydrated and are seeing the effects on your skin, eat fresh food rich in water. This is a great day-to-day health best practice, and it will benefit your skin too, as the condition of our gut and internal health is directly related to our skin, how it presents itself, and how it ages.
