By now you've probably guessed that we test a lot of beauty products here at Who What Wear HQ. From nail polish and makeup to hair and skin care, we are eyebrow deep on all things new, exciting, and wish-list. However, due to the number of products we come in contact with, we've also grown to be the most picky beauty consumer. Within seconds we can tell if a new hair oil is too heavy and we are quick to ignore a serum that gives disappointing results.
The good news? We're far more impressed than unimpressed after trying a new product, and usually we can't wait to get the word out to all of our beauty junkies (aka you!). Because of this, we decided that flooding our latest favorite products should become a monthly ritual. Every 30 days or so, you can expect a full report on the overnight highlighters, hair sticks, and skin care savers that we have become quickly addicted to.
For the most part, we'll be looking at Buzzworthy product launches (since these usually make up most of the action on our product-filled desks), but we're not going to turn down any new products for ourselves either. Sometimes our best discoveries are in a friend's vanity or someone else's face at the bar (true pre-quarantine story). Ahead of us are the best beauty products we tried in March! Grab your game face and your wallet. You will need both.
In very, very exciting beauty launch news, Kosas (one of my favorite clean makeup brands of all time!) Just launched three epic new brow products called the Brow Team. First, there's Brow Pop ($ 22), a double-action pencil; Air Brow in Clear ($ 22), a lifting treatment gel; and Air Brow in Tinted ($ 22), a volumizing treatment gel. I'm a pencil girl through and through so brow pop has been my jam since it landed on my doorstep. This pen delivers the perfect amount of pigment and the shape of the tip is great for defining, shading and filling in your browbones depending on how you like it. Plus, as usual, Kosas took his pencil to the next level by infusing it with ingredients that promote hair growth such as castor oil and panthenol provitamin B5. Oh, and is it just me, or does the adorable packaging give off Lisa Frank / Jelly Roll Pen vibes ?! In a great mood.
I know terms like "Holy Grail" and "Cult Favorite" are used a lot in the editorial world, but if one brand deserves these titles, it's the popular French label Biologique Recherche. (In fact, its products are so desirable and a bit of a top secret that you can check prices on Shop Rescue Spa's website.) By far the brand's most iconic product is Lotion P50. As you browse the internet, you'll have a hard time finding a celebrity or who's who in the fashion or beauty industry who doesn't swear by what it means to have smooth, baby-soft skin. Now I'm here with a big twist in the plot: I happen to think that their face creams are where the real magic lies. As proof, I got a terrible sunburn on a weekend getaway recently and I swear the reformulated Crème Verte Espoir A.R. transformed my charred, flaking skin overnight. Within a few days my skin was smooth, plump, moist and returned to its normal color range. It's magic, I tell you! I've used it every other night or so and unlike other thick, ultra-luxurious face creams, it didn't cause constipation or excessive greasiness. Reducing redness is its superpower, and while I don't have rosacea, it is an excellent treatment option if you do. Editor's Note: Prices for all Biologique Recherche products are available by logging into Shop Rescue Spa's website.
FYI, if you haven't tried Laneige's best-selling lip sleep mask ($ 22), you are seriously missing out on it. However, the brand's latest launch could be even better. Not only is this lip balm the cutest damn balm out there, it's also one of the most effective in my opinion. It offers lots of shine and a subtle touch of pearlescent sheen (this is a "Lip Goss" level balm by Lil Mama Guys), but it also works well on dry, chapped lips by increasing hydration and fullness so you can have a moist, plump-looking pout. One of the main ingredients is coconut oil, which you can break out if you're prone to congestion, but so far I haven't had any problems.
It's like M-61 can read my mind or something. I've been in a hot and intense relationship with the brand's PowerGlow Peel ($ 66) and PowerGlow Peel Gradual Tan ($ 68) for years, and the fact that the brand is currently doing a version of the latter for the entire Body got me running for my bikini, sunglasses and sunscreen. I like to glow all year round, but there is something about spring and summer that spices up the ant. Whether you're new to self-tanning or practically a pro, you'll love how easy it is and how easy it is to use these handy little towels. They contain key exfoliating ingredients like glycolic and salicylic acid to help remove dead cells (bye, sweat-induced breakouts!), While antioxidants in the form of blueberry extract and soothing lavender and chamomile keep skin happy and calm as your tan gradually builds up .
This is the only product that finally stopped me missing out on my professional blowout appointments. To be honest, I've never tried any Oribe product that wasn't fab, but I feel like it outdid itself with this easy-to-use blowout cream. The product is fortified with a unique skin care technology that helps your strands in the health and repair departments, but it also delivers weightless body, shine and bounce for your home blowout. It smells amazing and doesn't leave a gross residue (my absolute biggest pet when it comes to blowout creams and voluminous mousses). It's ideal for all hair types, from thick to fine, and even protects your strands from heat and UV rays.
I grew up in the 90s, so clay masks formulated to suck the life off your face were an important part of my routine until recently. The learned, itchy, and frankly uncomfortable feeling of a hard clay mask is actually so satisfying to me, but I decided that trying to get every last ounce of oil out of my skin isn't the movement. That's why I was so excited to see softer clay masks recently launched, and this one from Mara is just beautiful. It's an effective blend of kaolin, sea and bentonite clays, plus ethical honey, volcanic ash, and mara's proprietary algae blend that soothes and comforts the skin as it pulls out impurities. I love it so far.
Hand sanitizer doesn't sell out in seconds like it did back in the year, but it's still a must have in my life. However, it's not my favorite thing as it dries out my poor hands that are already prone to eczema. But this new one from Prima is so gentle and yet absolutely effective with 62% ethyl alcohol. It also has a pleasant mint odor and is loaded with hemp CBD, ceramide NG, and quinoa extract to help moisturize and aid in barrier protection. My favorite thing is the spray nozzle, which allows me to coat my hands quickly, easily and without the risk of too much or too little product falling out, as with gel disinfectants.
Okay, apparently nostalgia has been getting the best out of me lately because this is another recall to my childhood. This Ciny Lip Gloss is life! Seriously, everything about it is fun. I love the packaging (it reminds me of the lip glosses I wanted, but my mom didn't allow me to use them until I was a teenager) and I love the glossy sheen it leaves on my lips. The pink lemonade shade is milky and soft and the perfect topper to tap in the center of your lips on a nude lipstick.
I am careful with peeling. In fact, I would describe myself as overly cautious because I once wiped out my skin barrier to remove the traces of hormonal acne in my early twenties and I never want to be in that place again! Even so, I didn't hesitate to try this new serum for a second! I was fascinated by the absorption of skin-strengthening and bulging signal peptides and amino acids in addition to 10% lactic acid, which is known as one of the gentler AHAs as it can moisturize the skin in addition to exfoliating. I can't speak to the results just yet, but I'll say I put this stuff on the back of my hands a couple of nights a week too and they're already visibly smoother!
As much as I love the ritual of applying a makeup look, most of the time I just go for the simplest beauty option: a one-shot eyeshadow color, a tinted lip balm, and that hybrid blush and highlighter that checks all of my boxes. This ingenious blighlighter was created by famous makeup artist Jamie Greenberg and is like the two-for-one deal I've been looking for all my life. A single product that delivers the most beautiful conditioner and glows from the inside out? I am sold.
It took me well over a year into this pandemic (and the expectation to return to a "normal" life after vaccination) to finally set priorities for nail care again. This treatment oil makes it so easy for me to get my nails back in top shape and prepare them for all the manicures with spring motifs that I'm about to try. With this treatment, I also love the use of Sparitual's cuticle oil and nail enhancers, which are made from natural ingredients so that I really have the best, healthiest nails of my life.
Although beauty editors and insiders have been singing the praises of Vintner & # 39; s Daughter for years, I hadn't tried the Holy Grail facial serum until recently. Let me tell you I get the hype. It makes my skin feel so soft and gives me that unreal glow that gives the impression that when I'm far from it, I'm rested! I speak here like a holiday-like glow, even if I hardly left my house in 2020 and 2021. Before I apply the serum, I gently dab its sister product, Active Treatment Essence, into my skin. It has a little micro-exfoliating, brightening and moisturizing effect and is intended to prepare your skin for the serum so that it contains all the herbal ingredients that are good for you.
I've only used these two products as part of my nightly post-cleanse routine and it just feels very streamlined and very liberating to cut it all down. Plus, the pat-and-press method you are supposed to use when applying the products feels like a very calming ritual. My skin definitely feels a lot softer, more radiant, healthier and more even.
True story: I've always tried to avoid nude lip colors for fear of looking washed out. When I got the chance to try the lipstick, liner, and gloss that are part of Charlotte Tilbury's iconic Pillow Talk Lip Kit, I finally saw the light. The color provides the perfect flush while seamlessly going with any makeup (or non-makeup) look, and I can't help but reach for the lipstick on a daily basis. While all three products are meant to be worn together, it's the liner and lipstick that I use the most often. I really like the way the liner blends in so that at the end of the day when it all fades away, I don't get the obviously painted lips. The lipstick itself is matte, but has a very nice creamy finish that makes it very comfortable and weightless to wear.
After hearing my colleagues at the beauty department rave about Mutha's body products, my ears went up when I heard they came out with a facial serum. I was immediately impressed with the slim bottle, which felt like a luxurious addition to my medicine cabinet. What's inside is a milky formula that the brand says uses a certain form of vitamin C, tetrahexyl decyl ascorbate, which is clinically proven to be 50 times more effective than other forms of the ingredient at being absorbed by the skin. I've been using it every morning for two weeks and the most noticeable difference was definitely the texture of the skin, which looks visibly smoother and more even. The formula also feels great and moisturizing, which is a far cry from some of the stickier vitamin C serums I've tried in the past.
Would you like your skin to feel as soft and smooth as a baby's bottom, yes or yes? I usually avoid sheet masks, but this two-step mask deserves all the hype. The first step is a resurfacing serum that will gently exfoliate. After a minute or two, when it sinks into your skin, apply the second step, a "milk bath" sheet mask that hydrates with properties like sesame milk. Many skin care products I've tried take the time to see the results, but I was pleasantly surprised to notice how soft and smooth my complexion looked and felt immediately after using it. Needless to say, I'll stock up.
The past month was all about developing better skin care products. So I wanted to give the Then I Met You cleansing balm a spin. I have to admit I was a bit dubious about this balm – not just because the formula contains sea buckthorn oil, which gives it its signature yellow color. As someone who knows which products are best for their skin type, I always assumed that oil-based cleansers would make my acne and eczema-prone skin worse. Not to mention, I'm not a fan of the product hype, but after using this cleanser for four weeks, this cleansing balm has earned a staple in my skin care routine. Not only did I see my breakouts subside, but my skin's natural glow began to recover. I highly recommend giving this cleansing balm a try if you are looking to restart your skin care routine.
In addition to testing new cleansing balms that scared me this month, I decided to allay my fear of micro-peels. For readers with sensitive skin or Sex and the City fans who can't get Samantha Jones' iconic Peel-Goed-False moment out of their mind, the approach to scrubs can be terrifying. After getting some expert advice from Nudestix co-founder Taylor Frankel, I tried the brand's new Lemon-Aid Detox Glow Micro-Peel and I'm so glad I did. Not only was it not as scary as I imagined it would be, but it was effortless to inject it into my Sunday deep care, and I found my skin was so clear and moist after not knowing what I was should start with me. For anyone who is afraid of peeling, this is your exercise bike product. I recommend using your favorite cleanser first, drying your face, and then applying it in a circle (or with an exfoliating stick) to reap the benefits. I promise this will be your new favorite skin care product if you can overcome your fear and shock of seeing your own dead skin.
In addition to testing the Nudestix micro-peel, I tested the Vanity Planet scrub and lifting stick. I have to anticipate this by saying that I really have never used tools around my face unless you count handheld facial massagers as such. So there was a bit of a fear of even turning the wand on, but I'll say when I'm over it it's super easy to use – for beginners or skin care professionals. I found it made the home micro-exfoliating process easier, and for those who miss the spa, this is a no-fuss tool that will bring the facial experience into your home skin care routine.
I've tested some moisturizers lately but found that they either make my skin drier than before because they aren't as moisturizing or the waxes in them clog my pores and cause breakouts. After testing a few different moisturizers, I decided to try creams and am so grateful to have received Peach & Lily's Matcha Pudding Antioxidant Cream. First of all, I'm obsessed with the formula because after washing and applying my face, I never need to moisturize again during the day, it smells divine, and after four weeks of use, my skin was more moist.
It goes without saying that Olpalex products generate a lot of buzz, but when I heard they were releasing their first hair mask, I knew I needed to get my hands on it. As someone with 3B / 3C curls with low porosity and normal elasticity, I tested my fair share of hair masks and was a little dubious because you are not supposed to bake on them like other masks are, boy, was I wrong. After using it for a month, I feel like not only has my hair grown (which was proven when a friend faceted me and was amazed by my hair), but I noticed that the definition of my curls had also changed has increased. They are now more bouncy than they were before and retain more moisture, which is a dream come true for someone who has long suffered hydrating their hair. Once again, the Olaplex hype is supported until the end.
I'm obsessed with some of the products from the black hair care brand Curls Dynasty. But after testing their Bye Bye Breakage overnight mask last month, this is my brand's hero product. For anyone with curly hair, you know the feeling when you wake up the next morning and not only has your healing helmet (also known as a hair wrap) fallen off, but from wrestling at night it looks like your hair is drier than your nightly one was before Routine – it's one of the top ten most annoying problems with curly hair care. But this product is supposed to solve that (and it does). Before going to bed or even before braiding my hair, I used this product for about a month and never felt my hair was healthier than it is now. When I used this product, not only was my hair easy to detangle and retain moisture, but my hair stopped shedding (in fact, after forgetting about it for a few days, I noticed how quickly my hair started shedding again). I swear if you don't test anything else this month, please do it overnight. Your hair will thank you.
Long before the quarantine, I was the girl who went to the nail salon at least once a week. So it's safe to say that hugging DIY manicures was a challenge, but I'll say that Ciate London's cheat sheet stickers made me feel like I was finally getting an almost professional looking manicure at home. They are super easy to use; I only applied them after waiting for my polish to dry and then added a top coat to make sure they wouldn't fall off. And they lasted about a week, which was pretty impressive, and every time I looked down at them I had to smile. I will certainly use these stickers in the future.
I've been on a test run of natural deodorants for some time and can tell you that not only is it difficult to find a deodorant that actually works, but that products with sensitive skin can cause eczema even if they are "natural" . And while I tried Curie's Clay Pit Mask last month, which helped me clog my armpits and stop the frequent relapses, I couldn't stop testing my natural deodorant until I had to detox my armpits every week. I love this deodorant because it's all natural, but I haven't had any skin irritation or funky smelling days since using it for the last month – which is huge in my book has made this deodorant a mainstay in my routine.
Working with my curly hair is an ongoing saga, but I think this cream makes the trip a bit more enjoyable. It helps define my curls, reduce my frizz, and make my hair more moist. I also liked how my hair looked for the next two days after using this product, which is always a good sign as I don't wash my hair too often.
I'm already a huge fan of Moroccanoil's classic treatment, so I was optimistic about the brand's launch. As I wrote earlier, I have a dry, itchy scalp that needs a lot of TLC. This scalp treatment feels very soothing and reduces dandruff without my scalp feeling dirty.
Tower 28 just came out with three new shades of their epic cream blush and I've worn them all the time. At first glance they looked a little alive to my fair skin, but they blend so beautifully and miraculously stay on all day and all night. Perfect texture, perfect amount of pigment. You will be my go-to place this summer (especially the peachy rush hour shade) and beyond.
I'm such a fan of Byredo's newest fragrance. Mixed Emotions is a fragrance that works wonderfully day and night all year round. As usual with Byredo, it's such a unique scent that it's hard to describe, but after the first spritz I picked up the blackcurrant and tea that offset the violet's flowery. As it dries, a subtle woodiness develops that lasts all day. Expect compliments.
I think it's good to get well-squeezed powders, but I knew Kosas would make it (as always). This provides the perfect coverage and shine control while still showing your skin through. Much more natural and beautiful than any matte powder on the market, it leaves a glowing sheen on the skin as opposed to a dull mask.
I haven't seen a Summer Fridays product that I don't love, as this is no exception. It's light and quickly absorbed, and best of all, it leaves behind the most beautiful scent of coconut. My sheets even smell a little like that the next day, which is a real treat.
Spring is (finally) in the air on the east coast, which kept me focused on preparing my skin to spend time in the beautiful outdoors. With this in mind, I have regularly treated my face with my Sola Wave skin care stick before bed. I use it after washing my face and combine it with a simple hyaluronic acid serum. This USB rechargeable tool includes red light therapy, microcurrents, gentle heat, and vibratory massage to reduce signs of aging and improve overall skin health. It's a great way to relax. Then I massage for a few minutes with my tried and tested Gua Sha tool and rose oil to lock in this moisture before going to bed.
In addition to hand sanitizer and chapstick, I have a travel-size bottle of rose water spray on hand. Just a few splashes freshen up my face after long wearing the mask and it smells lovely – a nice bonus as it is difficult to smell real flowers through a mask!
Let's be honest: I haven't had the need to put on all my make-up for a long time. But I loved the minimalist beauty line Merit if I want to bring my best zoom face forward. While all of the products are truly remarkable, I'll keep the subtle, moisturizing highlighter in rotation throughout the summer.
As a lover of all things aromatherapy, I was finally excited to try Saje's new mindfulness edition of his Pocket Farmacy. With five roll-up and diffuser-friendly oils, it's easy to pick the right scent to set your intent for the day. Lately I've been favoring the Confidence blend, which has ginger, palmarosa, juniper, cypress, pine, lime, and cedarwood.
This is my new go-to for cleaning. I put this mist in my pocket and use it whenever I need to freshen up my hands.
I recently picked this up at my favorite beauty boutique, Arch Apothecary, in Madison, Wisconsin. Believe it or not, this is my first time using Oribe shampoo. I'm obsessed.
For anyone new to the Josh Rosebrook Sun Protection Club, it's super high quality, glides easily, and the tinted version balances my skin while still looking very natural. I honestly can't think of anything else I would expect from a sunscreen. Sure, it could be cheaper, but I'm willing to spend on high quality when it comes to sunscreen. I've been a fan of the brand since switching to a non-toxic beauty routine. So I was thrilled to hear that they upgraded their bottle to something called an "airless glass". The new packaging extends the shelf life and keeps the ingredients effective longer. Needless to say, sunscreen effectiveness is very important! The new packaging also helps minimize waste so you get the last drop. As someone who has resorted to hacking open tubes and bottles when I know there are more products hiding there, I am grateful to have been saved from myself.
I had heard and read so many amazing things about this serum that I was honestly skeptical that it would live up to the hype. But all I can say is wow, just wow Thanks to the molecular hyaluronic acid, my skin gets an instant glassy finish, but it's also full of other skin-friendly ingredients like vitamin B5 and vitamin B3. I realize the $ 245 price tag is up, but I'll tell you this is an investment that I think is worth making.
I'm a sucker for any type of facial tool or gadget and these don't disappoint. I put them in my freezer for an hour before using them, mostly on the weekends when I have more time to myself. Made from a special borosilicate glass, they not only increase blood circulation when massaged over your face, but also reduce the darkness and puffiness under the eyes and tighten the skin. I usually use them on a clean face, but the brand says you can massage in serums, creams, and moisturizers to improve their effectiveness.
This is the latest product launch from Venn. It's made with the company's proprietary combination of probiotics and prebiotics to balance and revitalize the skin. It also uses free radical antioxidants like niacinamide, which is a big plus in my book.
